Everyone’s dream is to rank for keywords like “Blogging,” “SEO,” “Social Media,” “Google”(Okay that’s too much).
Sadly, if you are just starting out maybe then this wouldn’t be possible for you! {Brutal Truth}
However, there is a technique which you can use to rank for keywords and get targeted traffic to your blog even if you are just starting out.
The technique is known as Long Tail Keywords!
I know many of you must have previously heard the name of long tail keywords! But still don’t know how to exactly find those keywords, rank them, and attract highly targeted users.
Well, today in this mega guide I’ll share with you the ways which I personally use to find long tail keywords and rank my blog articles pretty easily.
Remember, this is the only technique which will help you survive in the initial days of your blogging journey. And to be honest with you guys, it’s always difficult to rank for head tail keywords like “Blogging,” and “SEO.”
I’m not saying that you cannot rank for those keywords, but you have to beat all the authority websites to rank for your desired keyword. Which in my opinion, is a bit difficult if you are just starting out.
So, let’s first understand what long tail keywords are.

What Does A Long Tail Keywords Mean?
Definition of Long Tail Keywords: Long Tail keywords are three to four word phrases which have less competition compared to the head-tail keywords.

Let’s understand the types of keywords:
Head Tail Keyword – Blogging
Medium Tail Keyword – Start blogging
Long Tail Keyword – How to start a blog in 2018
Other examples of long tail keywords are:
“How to start a blog and earn money.”
“Blogging tips to get success in 2018.”
I think now you get the idea clear, right? Basically, long tail keywords are made for a very narrow audience and you cannot target mass audience with it.
Let’s now quickly read what are the benefits of a long tail keyword.
Long Tail Keywords Benefits
Here are few points which I feel will be beneficial to all who are targeting long keywords in their article.
#1. Little To No Competition
As I have mentioned earlier, you won’t find many big players competing on long keywords. Due to this, you have a higher chance of getting rankings if you start targeting long tail keywords. All you have to do is focus on keywords that are three or four words long phrases and start writing SEO optimized articles on it.
#2. Highly Targeted Audience
Although you’ll get a little less traffic compared to the head keywords. However, the traffic which you’ll be getting would be highly targeted. The best thing about targeting long tail keywords is you can convert those readers into customers easily.
A visitor searching “Facebook Messenger” will not convert easily compared to a visitor searching for “How to download Facebook Messenger.” You need to understand the user intent before writing your articles.
#3. Better Conversions
As I told earlier, chances of converting those people who are coming to your website are very high. You need to have a strategy in place for them to convert.
A visitor coming to your website from a long tail keyword already knows about the topic beforehand. They just need more information on the topic and they have high chances of converting into a subscriber or a paid customer.
I think it’s now clear in your mind that why you should target long tail keywords and don’t run only for head tail keywords.
How to Choose Long Tail Keywords?
Here are few things which you should look before hopping into any long tail keyword
Keyword Should Be 4 Words: Your long tail keyword should be at least four words. The longer the keyword, the better you’ll understand the searcher intent.
Describe A Product Feature: If this describes a product feature, the search will be more specific.
Low Keyword Difficulty Score: Make sure you are targeting keywords that are low in competition compared to the head-tail keywords.

How To Implement Long Tail Keywords in Your Article?
The best way to use your keywords is to naturally sprinkle them in your article. Instead of forcefully inserting the keyword you should use other variation of long tail keywords. Like if you’ll notice I have used so many long tail keywords in this article.
The other way is to use Latent Semantic Index (LSI) Keywords to keep a balance between your keywords density. Keep in mind that you don’t exceed the limit of 1.5-2% keyword density and use variations of long tail keywords and LSI Keywords.
Where To Put Long Tail Keywords?
- First 100 words
- H2 Heading
- Sub Headings (LSI Variation)
- While ending the article.
- Sprinkle variations all over the article.
Are Long Tail Keywords Better to Target In 2018?
Yes, they are, without any doubt. Long Tail Keywords is the best opportunity for any new website owner who wants to rank in a short period of time. It’s working since long, and it still works very like a charm. I’d highly recommend you guys to try it and experience the results on your own.
If you are targeting a single long tail keyword, you’ll be surprised by how many other keywords you are ranking for which you haven’t even targeted in your article. So, it’s definitely worth the try.

Thanks Mohd 🙂
Thanks for sharing this amazing information with us. But I have a doubt in my mind that should I go for high competitive long tail keywords as you mentioned in the article that they are easy to rank or should I go for less competitive long tail keywords? Waiting for your suggestions…
If you can find low competition long tail keywords with medium search volume that would work great for you in the initial days. Once you gain some authority, you can then target high competition long tail keywords and rank high in few months (But only after you make your site authoritative) 🙂
All the very best 🙂
